Kel-Mar provided general contracting services in a phased project in the South Bronx that included the construction of a 12,000′ square ft. multi-use building between two existing 20′ wide five-story brownstones. Despite the most challenging budget constraints, Kel-Mar also completely renovated one brownstone, and partially renovated another. This project was designed and constructed to house a program dedicated to ending the recidivism and cycle of crime for inmates from the Rikers Island Penitentiary. Work at Abraham House also incorporated a commercial kitchen and dining area, residential suites, a chapel, and a daycare and after school center for the children of these inmates in an effort to use education and family time to break the cycle of crime in these families.
