The success of the New York Metropolitan Montessori School triggered the need to expand. After purchasing the adjacent 5-story, residential building to the east, the school raised the $9.5 million needed to “expand” into the newly purchased building.
Because the floor elevations did not match, an extension was built onto the rear of the existing school and an additional floor was added to the purchased building. Through the design and installation of an impressive interior staircase along with a new elevator, easy access and flow was achieved between the buildings.
New mechanical systems including fire alarm, security, sprinklers and handicapped accommodations were installed as well as new services from the street. This state of the art education facility remained operational during the one and a half year construction schedule.
